Our Story

Shed Oxford was formed in 1997. It is a registered charity (1176953), self-funded by our members and grants. The members meet three days each week, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, 10:30am until 3:30pm.

Shed Oxford operated from purpose-built sheds in the grounds of The Abbey in Sutton Courtney. In early January 2024, we were asked to vacate by 31 of March 2024. This request was recently rescinded, and Shed Oxford now has two sites: North Hinksey, and a site at Sutton Courtenay.

The request to vacate prompted a search for new premises. We were delighted to be offered an alternative facility within Oxford RFC community hub, at North Hinksey. In May 2024, we secured a long lease, which provides the security of tenure and the stable environment Shed Oxford needed to move forwards. It also provided time to transition to the Oxford location, alongside other community groups. We are now close to a central Oxford location.

The building affectionately known as ‘the Nissen Hut had fallen into disrepair and used to store a significant accumulation of unused materials. The Nissen Hut is now fully renovated, with a fully equipped Workspace, with woodworking machinery and a full range of power tools.  See the Nissen Hut Renovation page.
